Natural products inspired drug discovery
The Sharma Lab is extremely appreciative for the funding agencies that allow us to conduct research. Those agencies are: The University of Oklahoma Junior Faculty Fellowship, Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST), Oklahoma NSF-EPSCOR, and American Society for Engineering Education SMART (Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation) Fellowship.
Chemist's in the Sharma Laboratory are able to quickly and confidently identify products in a complex reaction mixture via TLC/MS. Within minutes after developing a TLC this instrument can identify the molecular weight of each individual spot on the TLC plate. The Sharma Lab believes this instrument alone has increased productivity tremendously and is a key component to our daily research efforts. Take a look at the video above of the instrument in action!
To advance the utility of our synthetic compounds, we have established multi-disciplinary collaborations with Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Mount Sinai, Vanderbilt University, ICSN-CNRS in France, and University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. This combination of expertise in natural product isolation, organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry and molecular pharmacology is insurmountable.
